Five years in a New York state reformatory have left a blemish on Hazel’s real name. So when she takes a job as Doctor Gilbert Watts’s lady in attendance in 1898, she does so under an alias. In the presence of her quiet and pious employer, Hazel finds more than an income. She finds a friend and a hope that if she can set her tarnished past in order, she might have a future after all.

As Gilbert becomes accustomed to the pleasant chatter of his new dental assistant, he can’t help but sense something secretive about her. Perhaps there is more to this woman than meets the eye. Can the questions that loom between them ever be answered? Or will the deeds of days gone by forever rob the future of its possibilities?

Rachel Fordham pens a tender tale of a soft-spoken man, a hardened woman, and the friends that stand by them as they work toward a common purpose–to expunge the record of someone society deemed beyond saving–and perhaps find love along the way.

My Review

I remember the first time I picked a book by @rachel_fordham . The story is hilarious so I’ll tell you about it 😂) (Tbh I have so many little stories about Rachel’s books I’ll have to tell them to you all someday !)

Last year I was browsing on Goodreads and I stumbled upon her first book, Hope of Azure Springs. I don’t know why but something drew me to the story. I wanted to read it so bad but back then I was a broke college girl (still am 😂) so I did what had to be done.

I messaged my friends at Christian Fiction Devourers on Goodreads and asked if someone could lend me their ebook through the kindle app. 😂🤣🙈

I waited a day (lol) but no response :c no one had the ebook. So I, again, did what had to be done. I logged in into my dead Facebook account and messaged another group of friends that also lent ebooks. 🤠😂

My search was not in vain as I found a sweet lady who lent me her ebook for two weeks.🥺💗💗💗💗

Guys, that story destroyed my heart. It made me tear up and sigh- these were the type of stories I wanted to read forever!! Sweet, pure, and faith infused stories about what true love is really like and about strong heroines that where also gentle, feminine and kind.

In other words, I became an instant @rachel_fordham fan.

The story of how I found and the things that happened while I read her other book, Yours Truly, Thomas, will be for another day (that one is so incredible I still can’t believe it) – today I want to celebrate this book.

A Lady in Attendance is everything a book should be. It had adventure, love, friendship goals, imperfect characters from different walks of life that are brought together so they can learn from each other, laugh with each other… cry and love with each other.🥺💓

It’s a story about how your past doesn’t define you and how God can use the most unexpected circumstances to fufill his perfect plan for your life.😭💔💕

@rachel_fordham , thank you for writing such beautiful stories. You have no idea how encouraging and touching they are.

You can order it from @baker_book_house with 30% off right now!!!😍😍😍😍 Go snag a copy of this beautiful book! 🥰

About the Author

Rachel Fordham has long been fascinated by all things historical or in the words of her children “old stuff”. Often the historical trivia she discovers is woven into her children’s bedtime tales. Despite her love for good stories she didn’t attempt writing a novel until her husband challenged her to do so (and now she’s so glad he did). Since that time she’s often been found typing or researching while her youngest child naps or frantically writing plot twists while she waits in the school pick-up line. In addition to her passion for storytelling she enjoys reading, being outdoors and seeing new places. Rachel lives with her husband and children on an island in Washington state.
